Why Fable 3 (Probably) Won’t Piss You Off

Written by from on February 12th, 2010 | 0 Comments

It’s no secret that Fable 3 has been in the works for quite a while. After the success of Fable 2 , the only question was, “What new direction will the sequel take?” And while we’ve heard wild conjecture about Natal-exclusive gameplay and other wild ramblings, the director himself finally set the record straight. At Microsoft’s X10 event, Peter Molyneux was on-hand to reveal some initial details about the story and to explain exactly what he meant when he said Fable 3 was going to get gamers ” super pissed off .” Plus, watching some footage of the game, I was able to extrapolate a few details that he probably wasn’t ready to talk about quite yet. But let’s start at the beginning.

Guild Wars 2 won’t be out for a while yet, but anxious fans may still be able to try it out next year. Eurogamer (via VE3D ) is reporting that NCSoft isn’t expecting any major launches in 2010, but that fans can expect at least two big games the year after. “I believe there will be certain public events in the year 2010… at least a closed beta test for those titles. Commercialization will be expected, at this point, probably some time in the year 2011,” chief financial officer Jaeho Lee said during a recent conference call.

Check Out the First Guild Wars 2 Trailer

Developer ArenaNet has been very quiet about the status of Guild Wars 2 . It’s been two years since the release of the last expansion to the original Guild Wars , and between then and now we’ve received nothing but the occasional tiny scrap of information on the sequel. It was just over a week ago that we heard that two key NCsoft staffers, including co-founder Jeff Strain, were leaving the company, but ArenaNet was quick to offer up reassurances that the development of GW2 would not be affected. Then earlier this week we learned that some actual news on Guild Wars 2 would be forthcoming and, sure enough, the first trailer for Guild Wars 2 has been released today. The first half of the trailer is simply concept art (albeit very nice looking concept art) accompanied by a voice-over talking about the history of dragons and uniting against a common enemy — the sort of thing you’d expect. The latter half of the trailer gets into the good stuff, as we get glimpses of some actual game footage. It looks really nice — even if you have to pause the video to get a good look at most of what’s shown — but now we’re left wondering just when we’ll hear more about the game and its release date.
